One Week Equine Sculpture Workshop
Goksin Carey / Equine Sculptor
The National Sporting Library and Museum and the Artists in Middleburg (AiM) invite you, including those who live a distance, to experience equine sculpting for an intensive weeklong workshop with expert sculptor and instructor, Goksin Carey www.sculptinghorses.com. The workshop will be held at the National Sporting Library and Museum in the beautiful town of Middleburg, VA, the “Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital.” It is conveniently located to Washington DC and Dulles International Airport.
The workshop is open to all levels of experience – from beginner to professional. Everyone is welcome – no previous experience in sculpture is necessary. Students of all levels work together at their own pace and receive individualized instruction. The workshop is small, 10 students, so you will receive extensive, individual feedback and hands-on instruction.
The student’s “eye” will continue to be developed, by sculpting through observation and understanding the ABC’s of equine sculpting:
A- Anatomy, B- Biomechanics, C- Conformation, D- Dedication.
You will learn the landmarks of the equine anatomy on a sculptural form, positive and negative parts of a sculpture and learning to sculpt inside out (the bone and muscle structure).
Monday through Friday: 10-4:30 daily,
with half an hour lunch break (12-12:30)
Enrollment: 10 students
Monday – Wednesday :Starting with horse anatomy, the armature and working with the full Horse Sculpture.
Thursday: visiting the farm and completing the full horse at the form with a horse conformation demonstration.
Friday: Finishing the sculpture and working in details.
Saturday: Visiting the foundry (if the foundry is available)
Friday after 5:00 p.m. gathering at the AIMGallery –
Exhibiting the finished sculptures, Enjoying the Food and drinks, saying good bye and wishing to meet again.
Visiting the foundry, having a tour for the molding and casting in bronze process. Understanding anatomy, movement and landmarks of a horse by using a live horse.
Workshop fee: $600
Workshop fee includes one year free membership to the Museum and the AIM gallery, Middleburg, VA
*A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required at time of registration. Balance of $400 can be paid at the first day of the class.
Plus supplies: $140 (will be paid at the first day of the class).
*Includes tools, plastalina clay, clay warmer, and armature for a horse full horse or a horse bust.

Please register to reserve your spot, the workshop is limited to 10 students. We will send you detailed info upon receiving your registration. Upon finishing the sculptures, if you wish you may cast your sculptures in Bronze at the foundry. The bronzing price is extra, will be paid to the foundry.
